The Slow Food movement in France

Slow Food, a non-profit association funded by its members, was founded in 1989 to counter the phenomenon of fast food and fast life, in reaction to the disappearance of local food traditions.

This is to encourage citizens to become aware of their food, its origin, its taste, and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Slow Food asserts that we all have a fundamental right to the pleasure of quality food, and therefore a duty to protect the heritage of products, traditions and cultures that make this pleasure possible.

BIODIVERSITY

Bread, a cornerstone of the Western diet, is considered one of the jewels of French gastronomy. Biodiversity in cereal crops is experiencing unprecedented erosion. This loss of agrobiodiversity jeopardizes the survival of local and sustainable agricultural systems.
